Aggregate
Deleterious materials, clay lumps, friable particles
The dry aggregate sample is separated into a series of particle size fractions (e.g., 3/8" to 3/4"). Each fraction is covered with water for about 24-hours. The particles are then individually rolled and squeezed between the thumb and forefinger in an attempt to break the particles. The particles are then washed, dried and weighed. The percent loss is recorded as the amount of clay lumps and friable particles.
