Test Method Title
USACE EM 1110-2-1906
Permeability, Flow Rate, Hydraulic conductivity
Description of Test
This test method covers laboratory measurement of the hydraulic conductivity (also referred to as coefficient of permeability) of water-saturated porous materials with a flexible wall permeameter. This test method may be utilized with undisturbed or compacted specimens having a hydraulic conductivity less than or equal to 1x10-5m/s (1x10-3cm/s). The hydraulic conductivity of materials with hydraulic conductivities greater the 1x10-5m/s may be determined by Test Method D2434. This test method applies to one-dimensional, laminar flow of water within porous materials such as soil and rock.
Preferred Test Sample Size
2.87 in diameter x 3 ft Shelby tube or equivalent
Number of Test Specimens
Test Specimen Size
Minimum diameter of 1.0 in x 1in height, with the largest particle size 1/6 the diameter of the specimen.
Coefficient of permeability, hydraulic barriers, hydraulic conductivity, liner, permeameter
