Innovation with Risk Management in Massachusetts
For Department of Conservation & Recreation's Accelerated Bridge Program
Geocomp is proud to announce that it has been awarded a contract from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to assist with large scale infrastructure upgrades in the greater Boston area. Geocomp will
provide active risk management and project sequencing services.

Geocomp and its team of subcontractors will provide risk management for the rehabilitation of up to 35 bridges throughout the Commonwealth, as part of Governor Patrick’s $3 billion Accelerated Bridge Program. First priorities include structures that cross the Charles River.

Many of these bridges are considered main vehicular arteries into the capital city, so that an efficient and timely project is of the utmost importance. Additionally, many of these crossings are in parklands and recreational areas. As DCR’s stated mission is “To protect, promote and enhance our common wealth of natural, cultural and recreational resources,” these unique projects require enormous care.
DCR requires that these parkland areas be respected and disturbed as little as possible by this massive undertaking, yet it is also essential that the project meets budgetary and calendar goals called for by state statute.

"DCR is happy to be working with Geocomp on these important, historic bridge projects,” said DCR Commissioner Richard K. Sullivan Jr. “We anticipate that the Active Risk Management and Sequencing project will help DCR identify risk, anticipate and predict problems, and develop strategies to mitigate problems before they occur. We expect this will result in a more finely tuned and dynamic method for sequencing this work in the Charles River Basin.”

In order to provide the necessary upgrades while meeting these unique criteria, Geocomp will enhance its expertise in this area by assembling a team that includes firms with expertise in architecture, engineering, construction, transportation modeling and planning, and community and governmental affairs.
