Sandeep P. Mahajan joined Geocomp’s Consulting Group in August as a project manager. Originally from Mumbai, India, Dr. Mahajan worked for S.A.F.E. Geotechnics (Soils and Foundation Engineers), where he monitored laboratory and field work for soil investigation and piling projects. Included in his responsibilities were field logging and sampling, standard penetration tests, plate load tests, and pile load tests. He holds a Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering from the University of Arizona, and a master’s degree in offshore engineering. Sandeep is licensed in Arizona as an Engineer-in-Training.
Hai-Tien Yu has joined the firm as branch manager of Geocomp’s New York office. Dr. Yu is responsible for project management, technical oversight, and client development. He comes to the firm from Wang Engineering where he was responsible for geotechnical and structural instrumentation on a number of projects, including the Roosevelt Island seawall strengthening project, and Amtrak Rehabilitation of East River Tunnels. Hai-Tien holds Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in engineering geology from the University of Wales, U.K., and a B.S. in earth sciences from Cheng Kung University in Taiwan.
Joining the firm as an instrumentation geologist is Edmund Kirby. He will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of geotechnical instrumentation on projects throughout the U.S.

Ed worked in Ireland on construction site investigations, and on London Motorway network projects in the U.K. He also worked in mining operations in Australia. Ed earned his bachelor’s degree in geological engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
Rommel Mallari joined the Georgia branch as a project professional. Rommel was employed with Mactec, Inc. and has been involved in field engineering projects for the past 9 years. He has provided geotechnical instrumentation installation and monitoring for major infrastructure projects in the Los Angeles, California area, including tunnels and water line installations. He has a B.S. in civil engineering technology, and a B.S. in information technology.
Yu Fu joined GeoTesting Express as a laboratory geotechnical engineer. Originally from China, Ms. Fu performed laboratory testing and analysis for the China Institute of Water Resources & Hydropower Research. After earning her master’s in computer science in the U.S., Yu built up experience in software development, database design, and system testing. Yu is completing her master’s degree in geotechnical engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Welcome to the first issue of our quarterly newsletter, Below the SURFACE. Our aim with Below the SURFACE is to keep you informed with the latest happenings in the industry as well as at Geocomp. The electronic version has hot links to more information on the subjects covered in this edition.
