W. Allen Marr Elected to NAE

Allen was surprised by Geocomp staff who gathered to toast his achievement.

Allen commented that it is a remarkable honor for him, since it is rare that individuals from private practice are elected to the NAE. Congratulations, Allen!

On February 8, 2008, The National Academy of Engineering, based in Washington, D.C., announced the election of 65 members and nine foreign associates to its ranks, and Geocomp’s president and CEO, Dr. W. Allen Marr, was among those named to this illustrious group.

According to the NAE news release, Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.

Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature,” and to the “pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”

Dr. Marr was elected ... “For innovative applications of numerical methods, risk analysis, advanced laboratory techniques, and field instrumentation to geotechnical engineering and construction.”
